πŸͺ΄/ Alacritty + Zellij + Helix πŸ’–

Jul 02, 2024 – Caleb Jasik

Alacritty and Zellij work wonderfully together. Alacritty is a Rust-based terminal emulator that renders via the GPU, is configured via a TOML file, and has no UI other than basic window chrome.

Zellij steps in as a modern tmux replacement, allowing easy creation of terminal panes and tabs, with lots of additional features that I'm ignoring right now to allow me to settle in with it as a tool!

Then Helix jumps in as a Vim replacement, with first-class Language Server Protocol support, with default LSPs for many languages.

Screenshot of Alacritty running Zellij, a terminal multiplexer. The left panel shows btm showing system stats, and the right panel shows helix showing the Code component.

I'm enjoying the combo as a simple setup for vim-like editing that is close to VSCode/Zed language integration w/o vim-like plugin handling woes
