Got myself a new bike!
It's a single speed from State Bicycle that I've been eyeing for a few months.
Had a couple of other options (https://shop.fairdalebikes.com/collections/fairdale-lookfar/products/2023-fairdale-lookfar-gloss-surf-blue-in-xs-l, https://www.cannondale.com/en-us/bikes/active/fitness/adventure/adventure-eq, https://surlybikes.com/bikes/preamble), but the combination of simplicity, price, and novelty of the drop bars and single speed made it for me. I'll probably explore something else in the future; I still want an ebike to zip through Houston with anyway 😁.
I'm starting out minimalist with what I'm attaching to it, just my previous bike's lock and next I'll get lights and a phone mount on it. I'll end up attaching a rear and front bike rack on it eventually as well, so I can grab groceries and whatnot!
Just remembered to register it on https://bikeindex.org/, to give me data to report if it ever gets stolen 🫡.
Current maintenance to do:
- [x] Tighten the seat in the right position
- [x] Make sure my brakes are aligned after a little bit of riding
- [ ] Investigate a dynamo headlight
- [x] Get a new phone mount for it (Had a https://loop.cc/en-us that I've enjoyed, but it doesn't fit the handlebars) (Turns out it does fit, I just needed a smaller rubber spacer on it and to try harder.)
